365DoT - Day 181

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY! I just submitted comics to 8(!) newspapers for consideration. It's the first time in over 2 years that I've submitting a pack of my work and hopefully, editors will see that I have improved. Fingers crossed. I'll keep you posted.

365DoT - Day 127

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

In honor of my 26(!)th birthday, I want to post the earliest Teddy picture I could find. There are most definitely older drawings, but I don't know where they are. This is from 1993/94.

365DoT - Day 95

This is a little sketch of a storyline I want to do called CopterTrevor, where The Copter is placed into a robot version of Trevor. Hilarity ensues.

SPECIAL NOTE: This is the 200th post on this blog! HOORAY!

365DoT - Day 69

I am just immature enough to not let "Post 69" pass without making a dirty joke. So this is one of my stand-by dirty "Teddy" comics (and a personal favorite). It's been sitting around for nearly seven years now, but has yet to be published/completed. One day, the perfect opportunity will present itself and this comic will be waiting.

365DoT - Day 25

A MILESTONE! 25 just like ME! Well, usually, 25 is a milestone because is 1/4 of the way to 100. But we're going to 365 and this is only 1/14 or 6.8% of the way there. Yeesh. Anyway, I finally seem to have cracked the code to my Teddy History/Plea for Education comic, so that is going to be what I do tonight (on top of some stuff I am obligated to do). And, if you look up about 5 inches, you will see that this is the new banner as well. Like I said, its a milestone.

365DoT - Day 21

I've been cheating. Hell, I'm cheating right now. Last week sucked something awful. I made it through, but completely dropped the ball on posting to the blog. Just completely in a funk, so I didn't get to posting. I fixed that by fake posting every day. Cheating, but I felt it was alright this one time.
I DO want to make a point that I was drawing through the whole week. Except for today cause I slept through the whole day. This is the Teddy Timeline and the first part of a comic that I can't seem to write.

365DoT - Day 16

Didn't draw today, so I took a picture of the comic I read through the day. It captures a hidden something of how I currently feel.

365 Days of Teddy

I have a little cardboard box on my desk at work. For about a month, I have been filling it with what I sketch during my breaks. There is something very satisfying about holding the sketches in the sizable stack they've now become. Nearly did it every day, but definitely averaged one a day. And as tonight showed, the sketches and doodles can lead to story ideas, which will lead to even more drawings. A wonderful circle of creativity.

But now it is time to take it a step further. I have started to consider my future. I'm not saying that, for the first time, I finally went "Oh yeah. I have to figure out my life." Just been considering the immediate. The next 10 months really. That's when my lease is up and I have decided that I need to be pointed in a certain direction at that point. What that direction will lead is what the 10 months will determine.

So, its time to go all in. For me to come to the proper decision, I have to commit to the life I want to have during these 10 months. Its only when examining every angle that a proper conclusion can be made. It starts with one post. ANYONE can do one post, though. Its about the post that are further down the line. As the stack gets bigger and the cardboard box fills up, it becomes more impressive and I am that much more invested. Its about investing a year into become who I have always wanted to be: a cartoonist.

That last time I was at the Charles M. Schulz Museum, I learned something that has since stuck with me. Schulz was 27 when Peanuts first started, a month and a half before his 28th birthday. That's the time table I want for myself, started on whatever it is that establishes me by the time I am 27. Today, on April 2nd, 2012, I am 25 years, 8 months, 24 days old. 27 months to go.

I started this blog on March 16, 2009. Three years ago. 1113 days ago. And this is post 100 (It happens to be a happy accident that this post knocks us into triple digits). That's 1013 potential posts that never were. 1013 drawings, stories, characters that were never thought of. Looking at the post history is even more discouraging when it is broken down further. 21 posts in 2009, 47 in 2010, 18 in 2011 and 14 this year (I'm not sure if you are interested in those figures, dear reader. But I need to keep those down in writing). Its another way to motivate me for what I want to do.

For the next 365 days, I will post a drawing to the blog, done that day. Not just blurry sketches (at some point during the 365 days, the image quality of said sketches will improve dramatically), but full comics, panels, drawings, in progress pieces; the progression of my style, which has be jumping in leaps and bounds (as an upcoming comic will attest to).

The best part about this (beside furthering my skill as an artist and instilling in me a sorely needed amount of discipline) is that the final day will be April 1st (and Kevin Kauker's 23rd birthday). And having that bit of incidental scheduling is just too good to pass up. Let us begin.

(This single sketch lead to the idea of a trilogy for TrevorCopter)

New Stuff

I have three blogs that I use for my comics. This one, Attorneys At Law and TrevorCopter. A@L and TC have their own purpose, but this blog has really become redundant since all the stuff I have been doing really only applies to the work being done on the other two. So where does that leave this? I have decided to make this my all purpose blog, where I will be posting EVERYTHING. That means that anything that appears on the other two blogs will also appear on this one as well. It's the highlight reel, if you will. All comics will posted in their respective places and then also posted here. So, keep an eye out for all things TREVOR and enjoy!

Attorneys at Law

Teddy the Bear will now be the home of my new political cartoon, Attorneys at Law. I made two small ads to show what type of strip this is going to be. STAY TUNED!

50 posts

For the little blog that could and can, the 50 POSTS milestone has been reached. Its a good thing too because I could use an excuse to celebrate and post a picture of the cutest baby ever, my nephew Owen. Thanks to everyone who has been reading the comic, either on the blog or in the Star or on Facebook. It means a lot to me that I've been supported through all of this. Thank you. Now squeal in delight :)

The Score

I've been posting regularly since WonderCon and I've been filling the blog with plenty of content, but the majority of it has been older content that's basically been back logged from what I've been in doing in the past. Now that I have all my older stuff on the page, I think it is time to look forward. And that means regularly posting new strips on a certain day. And that brings us to today and what that means: Every Wednesday, there will be a new Teddy the Bear. For those of you who are my friends on Facebook, you know that I've been posting Teddy strips regularly on my page and I will be posting those still, but there needs to be a little bit more content on the Teddy page. So, with that, there is still a back log of strips to be posted, but they will be added in with the new stuff. Tell your friends!

PS. There is now a Teddy the Bear FAN PAGE on Facebook. Make sure to check it out

The first....

Welcome to the Teddy the Bear blog. Here's the basics of the blog. I have a one panel comic, Teddy the Bear, that occasionally runs in the Sonoma State Star. But I believe that Teddy should be getting out to the masses. I have all the strips on my Facebook, but I would like to get more in depth and share some more personal drawings on the web that don't really fit into the Teddyverse. So, I bring them to blogspot and hopefully to a wider audience. The strips will be posted soon. Like later today soon. For now, we have the intro.
